I've been told by clients that my approach is refreshing. Maybe that's because at the start of an engagement, I find myself asking a lot of really basic questions (e.g., "What does that do?", "How do you know if it's working?", etc.)
I do this because I'm genuinely curious and love to learn new things. But mostly, it's because experience has taught me never to assume anything.
Because I don't assume anything, I don't offer "cookie-cutter" solutions. I also don't use trendy buzzwords or slide decks packed with "consultant speak" that look impressive but don't offer the entrepreneur much substance.
Instead, I do what comes naturally to a scientist: I use the scientific method to discover how things really are. I make, test, and refine hypotheses using available data. From there, I rely on creativity and experimentation to explore the problem space and find solutions that work.
But I'm more than just a scientist, I'm also an award-winning entrepreneur. I'm comfortable with risk and see it as an unavoidable part of doing great things. As an entrepreneur, I keenly understand that our businesses are not scientific experiments, they represent our livelihoods and our dreams.
By following this approach, I offer the kind of no-nonsense, practical advice that I would have greatly appreciated when I was starting out. Only someone who has walked their own entrepreneurial journey can do that.
